Little Rissington PPR ?

Postby FLY 7 » Thu Jun 28, 2012 9:08 pm

Is it still possible for private flights to go into Rissington, with PPR obviously?

It would be a helicopter arrival, ideally landing nr the kart circuit.

I've done it before, but dealt with Devonair, who I understand are no longer in residence.

A work colleague is an official at the track, I'll ask.

Used to race at Rissi many years (and a lot less lbs) ago.

when are you planning on flying in?

If it's weekend then you will need to call 637 VGS, on 01451 810 078, which is likely to only be manned from about 7:30am, if it's weekend it's also worth trying as they run summer camps, I can find out from friends on the squadron when these are if you let me know when you are thinking of going.

Nothing planned, mainly interested in current access, as I go up there once a month. But, if it is possible, maybe this Sat or Sun.

Mainly concerned about where helicopters can land/park. Close(ish) to the circuit would help, but it is MoD land and there seem to be quite a few restrictions. Shame Devonair have moved out :(

I'll drop a note to see if I can get you another contact number for today, but otherwise I would suggest calling between 07:30 and 09:00 to try and speak to someone in 637 VGS on the number I provided before, there is quite a bit of space by the karting track as I'm sure you're aware, I wouldn't see it being a major issue provided you spoke to the Duty Instructor as 637 before arriving and got a clear briefing on their circuit patterns etc...

Looks like I've been beaten to it!

My contact at the kart club said "speak to Julie Dredge" - number on the kart club website. But if the air side of the venue say no, speaking to the karters won't be of much help.

As Vigdriver said, unless your visit is directly to the VGS.

Yes, unfortunately, all much as I suspected.

Shame. When Devonair were there, there seemed to be a useful balance between the MoD and GA operations.
