M&S socks

Postby Monocock » Sun May 20, 2012 9:46 pm

Is it just me or do M&S sell particularly poor quality socks these days? I have been through 5 pairs (holes in heel and/or toes) within about 5 'wears'.

The ones I'm talking about are black with jaunty coloured heel and toe material.

What happened to the thick boring ones one used to be able to buy? My wife can't even cook so there's no point in asking her to darn...

Don't the seven ages of man end with complaints about the quality of M&S products?

The black sports socks were still available at Xmas - sad enough to buy my own socks then :-(

Another one of my pet hates - socks that work themselves off your feet and into the toes of welly boots and stay in the boots when you pull them off. I can never find socks long enough to pull up and fold back a bit to just below the knees.
Antagonise no man, for you never know the hour when you may have need of him.

The quality of virtually everything that M&S sells these days is nothing like what it used to be. But then again, prices are way down too. Had they stayed where they were they would have gone bust - or worse Philip Green would have succeeded in his take over bid.

In my experience NOTHING is made to last these days. Our first refrigerator lasted over 25 yrs, the second less than 2!

I have a drawer full of (25+) pairs of black M & S 'work socks' all of which are at least 7 years old many up to 20:

Only use 'em 10 x per year now with the dark whistle but they are all as good as the day they were bought.

If you only wear those socks <2.5 times a year then it is no surprise that they have lasted 7-20 years  :D

I won't be drawn into a pointless discussion on 20 year old black M & S socks...........

I changed my sock strategy about 3-4 years ago when I threw out ALL of my socks and bought about 30 pairs of Tesco black polycotton socks. Now that's all I wear and when a hole appears I throw out one sock, not two. I never have mismatched socks in the drawer and there's never a lone sock looking for a partner.

I thought I was the only person who did this. It is the only thing that makes sense, at least for black socks. I still have the problem with other colours but am preparing myself for a second Great Sock Cull.

I am just so much brighter, in all senses of the word, than FG or LT.

I have 15 pairs of identical black socks and (and this is the really clever bit) 15 pairs of identical brown socks.

I know, I know, I am touched by the hand of genius...what can I say?

I have come to regard non-black socks in much the same way as I regard multi-colour bow-ties or waistcoats. Definitely a bit 'low-rent'.

The worst offence - Homer Simpson socks:
