Football, ruddy hell!

Postby Gerard Clarke » Mon May 14, 2012 4:17 pm

You chavball mockers can look away now, but yesterday's Premiership closer showed footy at its most intensely dramatic.

Congrats to Man City. Alex Ferguson's comments after the game were the epitome of bad grace and curmudgeonliness. What a sour man he is!

Spurs finished off one place adrift of certain Champions Leagueage, and need a Bayern win on Saturday if they are to keep their best players; but at least their 2-0 win at Fulham was convincing, whereas Arsenal were given their 3-2 win for free by West Brom's dodgy reserve keeper.

My ex wife went to a charity auction at our daughter's school. William Gallas has his child there, and donated one of his shirts, signed by the Spurs first team. A very thoughtful early fiftieth birthday present for me from the ex.

Good at getting off prosecutions for avoiding traffic jams by using the hard shoulder, though. And I could never take to anyone who constantly chews gum; gives them an air of bovine stupidity.

Wasn't he also caught unawares on a mike calling for a certain journo (who had printed something The Bovine One didn't like) be banned from future press conferences?

No, not a nice man.

I'm no footy fan, but my girlfriend's family are all die hard Man United fans, so I've found myself following them (and the PL in general..) more closely than I would have in the past.

The finale to the City v QPR game yesterday was sporting tension at its best - it was real edge of the seat stuff. I think QPR were superb to hold City off as long as they did. Even though they stay up, that will be a bitter loss I imagine.

In other sport from yesterday, I can't help but be pleased that Williams have once again won a race, with Pastor Maldonado winning at the Circuit de Catalunya. A very gutsy, solid drive (and always nice to see Alonso beaten, especially on his home tarmac). Horrible scenes after the race, with the fire in the Williams garage.

I landed back from Munich with about 20 minutes to go and had to run to the nearest pub to watch the climax!

Amzing stuff.

What happened to all the cheating? Certainly the City match had no dives in the penalty area, and I suppose as the Utd match had them winning most of the time, there was no need for it there. Good job Joey Barton was there and on form or City would never have had the full 5 minutes at the end to wake up.

I am surprised that some could understand Fergies comments regarding the situation because I can never understand a word he is saying. You've got to hand it to the guy though - when he was manager of Aberdeen Football Club (which was the equivalent to East Grinstead Post Office United when he took over) he took them into Europe, winning the Cup Winners Cup (so my son tells me).
Antagonise no man, for you never know the hour when you may have need of him.

If No1 Joey Barton had not been sent off because he reacted to Tevez's elbow, that went unseen but the slightest touch back & Tevez dived down as if hit by a sledgehammer, the sending off added 2 mins to extra time & we know what happened then!

If No2 Bolton had not had 2 Dodgy goals against them, the first being appalling when the goal keeper was fouled having already caught the ball, then they would have won which would have kept the pressure on for QPR & they would have tried harder at the end as all their new Bentleys depended on them staying up.

If No3 the QPR bench hadn't stood up and celebrated the Bolton result at 2 mins to go then perhaps the players would have tried harder right to the end.

If No4 Mark Hughes (turncoat) said at the interview after the match that they have a "special relationship" with City, once they were safe they gave up.

I am not bitter - well not too bitter!

City need to remember what happens to little clubs that come into cash through a rich owner, they need to see what happened to Blackburn this year!

Yeah, lives nowhere near Manchester.

Fergie moaned about the extra time City had at the end, we all know that's called 'United time'

As a Fulham supporter, I have to admit I wasn't aware they'd moved to White Hart Lane.
Otherwise typical remark of a Spurs supporter about the Gunners - my wife's team.
We'll be Bayern supporters next saturday - rather Spurs get the Champions League place than cheating Chelsea.
What's an iPad? Do I really care?

Rotor, somewhat surprisingly I agree with you. I would say pretty average seasons performance for £1billion  Am I forgiven for sharing my imagination on the sailing club thread?

G, was that you in Chambers wearing a natty signed shirt? Those pinky orange football boots may double up as dancing shoes

Tevez had a banner tonight saying RIP Fergie - what a prat, the sooner he is out of England the better
