Glenforsa Flyin 2012 (15th - 17th June) ...

Postby Iceman » Fri Mar 02, 2012 7:43 pm

I always have a long weekend in Glenforsa at least twice a year and I don't imagine that this year will be any different. It would be great to get a gathering of forumite aircraft, as has been attempted in previous years. The flying calendar seems to be getting full already with Koblenz, Raduno, etc., so just canvassing for interest and preferred months (May to July) at the moment.

I would love to do the mad thing, and trundle up there in the Jodel. It would have to be solo, with bag on pax seat (there being no baggage space), and it would take a while (at 150kph cruise). The total absence of any IFR capability would also be a challenge (based on experience during past trips to Glenforsa).

I reckon a long weekend - with some flex for being weathered in to various places - and it would need to fit with the weekend duty rota.

Unless, of course, an aeroplane sharing option were to materialise...

I would like to go --- perhaps in the Robin this year. Please pick a good flying weather weekend for a change!

I'm always up for a bit of Glenforsa. Changes seem to be afoot and the usual fly in date (late May B/H) which is already mucked about by the Jubilee and is now in June may not happen at all. See http://glenforsaairfield.co.uk/7.html. But a Forumite's fly in on some other weekend would be splendid. Some time in the late spring/early summer is best - before the midges get their act together.

Keef - you definitely need to introduce the Jodel to Glenforsa!

I'll be taking the Commander or Seneca so if you need a lift, then I'm sure that I'll have room. It would, however, be nice to see the Jodel there.

You take the Robin Edward, I'll take the Commander or Seneca. Now, you know my track record on weather, so you'll just have to get that IMC finished before then !

I'd be keen to come along, depending on dates (late May and early June always get pretty busy in my diary, for some reason).

Just bringing this one to the top of the pile again. Any dates in mind yet, Ice?

With other flying commitments in mind, Koblenz, Raduno, etc., I'm looking at the weekend of Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th June for this event, which includes the longest day, June 21st. Could all please indicate their availability for this weekend. Failing that, the previous weekend of 15th - 17th.

Aircraft booked both weekends, unfortunately. Happy to hitch a lift if one is available.

I guess that you'll have your new toys by then so I can imagine the 'lads' hogging the bookings in order to play :D Can pick you up en route if required.

Thanks Iceman, I'll take you up on that very kind offer! I can't make the 15th-17th myself, but I'm available for the 22nd if that's the agreed date.

The toys are due to be installed later this month, and ready by early May - let's you and I go and have a play shortly after :)

According to Brendan, there are 6 rooms available on the weekend of the 15th, 'lots' availble on the weekend of the 22nd, so my preference is for the 22nd.

I'm on for either weekend but would prefer 22nd as the Robin is only free for that weekend. Happy to hitch a lift the previous weekend.

Unfortunately, I've just been informed that I'm unavailable for the 22nd too :(
