The Skymap IIIC is a portable GPS with moving map, topographical information (colour contours) and mapping with four levels of roads for precise navigation. It has extensive user defined waypoint storage and flight planning capability, plus many other features including simplified joystick data entry and point interrogation, split screen navigation modes, trip/fuel planning, vertical navigation, wind calculation, note pad function, auto zoom, extended track, emergency search, emergency airfield minimum criteria, unique user defined airfields, map customisation, map configuration, choice of map datums and turning point arrival and marker annunciation.

This unit was built in 1999 and is S/No SR0399. It has had the topographical upgrade but the airfield database is from 2005 and could therefore probably do with being updated again - Skyforce charge less than £100 for this - although we have managed perfectly well with the version fitted. It was a properly certified fitment to the panel of our aircraft (using a roof-mounted aerial which is not included in the sale). It's suitable for either panel or yoke mounting with the appropriate bracket (also not included). The moving map display has helped us navigate accurately all round the UK and Europe and, as anyone who has used one of these units will know, it is an absolute boon to positional awareness. The only thing that's missing is the user manual which can be downloaded free as a PDF from the web.
