La Mole (LFTZ) is a airport close to Cannes and especially St Tropez. It's where all the rich and famous go, or at least that's what the handling prices can lead you to believe.
Anyway to use it you need to qualified by an authorised instructor, as it does have some interesting quirks due to geography and winds. Runway 06 especially is like a mini Hong-Kong.
So this sunday I went there to get the rating. Here is some footage the trip there, 2 circuits and the trip back:

Re: La Mole (LFTZ) Getting the site rating!!!Looks like some fairly un-hospitable ground for an engine out on the downwind or base leg!
Congratulations!
When I went there I knew about the checkout requirement but how was I going to go about it?
I had a lot of mountain flying experience and I thought one can but ask... So I gave them a call... "Bienvenue a La Mole..." was the welcoming response. The procedure was outlined in the Guide de l'Aviation Generale and I flew it. The aerodrome is not that difficult for us in little aeroplanes. One must be cautious if there is a Mistral however! I landed there and having done so I was now OK for two years The airport operator at the time made us welcome and let us know his annoyance at the check out requirement as this precludes his airport for visiteurs like us from outside of France. I stayed in St Maxime for the night and then had a trip out to Cannes Mandelieu and back to La Mole for a second landing there. The third day we took off and flew around Mont Ventoux and up to Abbeville before returning to White Waltham. MichaelP
