Goodwood Revival

Postby Jodelpilot63 » Tue Aug 21, 2012 8:29 pm

Like many fellow pilots I'm sure i've long thought of paying a trip to Goodwood in my own aircraft. So today I called up to book a slot. Surprise (or not) number 1. The landing fee and one night overnight parking was £110! Well I was kind of expecting it to be expensive (not that much, but expensive) so shrugged my shoulders and dug out the credit card. I got my second surprise when I asked whether this was refundable. I was told that it was...but only if they cancelled the event. If weather demanded a cancellation on my part then they would only refund 50%. Given the weather we have had this year and not being willing to place my self under the pressure of trying to get there rather than waste £55.00, I said " I'll Pass thank you". Now I know its a popular event but £55 for nothing seems excessive to say the least!

In the days when nearly every airport has subscribed to the "free landing fee for a weather diversion" scheme then this doesn't really seem to be an approach designed to promote safe aviation. Still if your flying in in your Citation or King Air then I doubt you'd notice but £55 is an hours flying in the Jodel!

For those who've committed funds I've got my fingers crossed for you!

This has been done to death in The Other Place.

I think the answer is "That's capitalism comrade" i.e. supply and demand.

If Goodwood can make enough money that day to help make it affordable for the rest of us the rest of the time then I am all in favour of it.

Pre-66 a/c still get free landings at Gwd on the 359 days in the year that are not Revival or FoS. That gets a :thumright: from me.

Didn't know that! A good reason to bimble down there in Concorde, then.

Absolutely. Goodwood is my home base, so do let me know if/when you come down and I'll do my best to meet you there. Hopefully an uplift of fuel and/or lunch in the restaurant would help support the landing fee concession. PM follows with contact details.

Thanks for PM!

I don't have any immediate plans: the diary is chokka, for reasons I don't fully understand. It's certainly on the list of places to go, and your PM details are in my little book - thanks!
