Flyer Forumites Impromptu Meetup Lee-On-Solent Sat Oct 20th

Postby JonEBgood » Wed Oct 17, 2012 1:37 pm

Hi All,

As the weather is looking promising for this Saturday (and I am not aware of any clashing plans) I'd like to invite fellow forumites down to the seaside for an impromptu End Of Season Get-Together at Lee-On-Solent Sat 20th October.

FBO Sapphire Aviation will provide free handling at their apron, which is near the airfield main gate - food, the high st and seafront are all walkable from there in 20 minutes.

No formal agenda, just the more that come the more likely of meeting up with fellow forumites.
Each crew can make own plans on where to eat

What I will organise ** if folk let me they are interested ** is a private visit to the Hovercraft Musuem http://www.hovercraft-museum.org/ (entry £6-£10 depending on numbers) which would be 1200L or 1500L (state preference)

Landing fees are £15 for singles payable to FlyBN. Twins enquire of the Tower 02392 551714

Short notice yes, but hey what are sunshine and wings for! Who's coming?

Tempting.

I am supposed to be building a greenhouse on Saturday. But I have been looking for an excuse to visit Lee.

Decision, decisions.

I will monitor the domestic situation and weather and make a decision tomorrow. PROB80 in favour of flying, if I had to quantify.

Why oh why do you guys always pick the dates that are impossible for me! Otherwise, as Aerotech are now based down with Sapphire in our new off shoot from Cov, I would have taken the people carrier down to ferry you all around and given you a proper Flyer Lanyard reception!
However, I will warn boss Steve and Sapphire Ops manager Matt of the intention and I am sure they will put on something special accordingly.
Let me know numbers by shouting on here and I will get the boys and the delectable Jen who is our weekend staffer and all round good egg, on the case!
Cheers
AF

100,000 sq feet of ramp..............toilets and free tea and coffee..............Biscuits are £400 each! ( Just kidding).

We can collect landing fees on behalf of BN including twins so just ask for the "Sapphire Ramp" when you land and taxi South past the Lee Flying Association Hangar into our ramp. Our web site sapphireaviation.co.uk has a sat map location. (Hangar D)

Forget the greenhouse, shopping and jobs around the house..............

Fly in to "The Heart of the Solent"......EGHF

Regards

Steve

Two tall guys in a PA28 (Charles Hunt + me) are planning to fly over from Shoreham. ETA 13:00 local. Not had a chance to read all the briefing docs yet - will do that in the morning.

Update:
Departure delayed by fog and low cloud. Now estimating a 13:00 - 13:30 departure from Shoreham.
We will not linger too long at Lee, as it looks like the poor vis will be returning.

Ok, thanks for the update - dont feel obliged to come - you now know you - and everybody else - are welcome - and can pay a visit to Lee any day of the week - no PPR needed and free handling near the main gate from Sapphire.

I'm thinking of driving round early afternoon, so could even do a fish&chip run!

Have reluctantly binned today's flight due to the weather. :(

Will try again later in the year.

We managed to get a few aircraft in to Sapphire today despite some morning fog and low cloud. Met by marshellers, including the super enthusiastic Steve who gave me the low down on his ambitious plans for the US-style FBO. Free tea and biccies in the cabin, and Irv then arrived by road and very kindly ferried us down to a seafront pub for lunch. Back at the cabin, Cub had arrived also for a good chin wag. Landing fees can be paid at Saphire instead of the tower, and the handling service is free. All looks very promissing for Lee and Sapphire with a great service all round :thumright:

Thanks to all who visited.A lot of work by a lot of people has gone into making Sapphire Aviation a reality.

A huge thank you to the Lee Flying Association and their support over the last 12 months.

7 days a week we are there able to provide free handling and can arrange hotels, taxis etc all as part of the service. Maintenance support is now in place through Aerotech and Bournemouth Avionics.

So please do not hesitate to visit, everyone will receive the same welcome and the same hospitality............. :thumleft:

Visited this weekend and have to say the experience was excellent.

Emailed beforehand saying we'd need a taxi to the ferry to get to Portsmouth and when we arrived (a bit late due to some sporty weather on the way) were marshalled in to a spot and told the taxi had been ordered when we arrived. Went in to the FBO for a chat and a cup of tea until taxi arrived - very helpful and welcoming.

Sorted landing fee and overnight parking on the way out and another chat then speedy departure.

I think it's great to see something new like this with great customer service and an airfield that seems genuinely interested in GA - fantastic!
