Turweston 70th Anniversary

Postby sedbergh » Sun Sep 23, 2012 11:35 am

Turweston will be holding a fly-in on October 20th to celebrate our 70th Anniversary.
Turweston was opened in 1942 as an OTU operating Wellingtons and Mitchells.
It was also home to the Armys stock of Bren Gun carriers and other vehicles during the early fifties and a small gliding club during the seventies and eighties.

The airfield re-opened in 1994 using part of the old main runway (recently extended and widened to 1250m of smooth tarmac).
Now home to the LAA and a large selection of aircraft of varied types.

Everybody welcome and landing fees cut in half to £5.00 on the day for any aircraft.

Turweston 70th Anniversary

Postby sedbergh » Thu Oct 18, 2012 11:02 pm

Look forward to seeing some of you at Turweston this Saturday to help celebrate the airfields 70th Anniversary.

We are hoping to have a visit from a couple of chaps who were here during the war and will have a small display of photos from that time also.

Turweston 70th Anniversary

Postby sedbergh » Sun Oct 21, 2012 10:57 am

Just wanted to say thanks to the 47 visitors who turned up after the fog cleared yesterday. A good day had by all with plenty of people coming by car also, all to celebrate Turwestons 70th birthday.
Only one 'veteran' who was here in 44 (thank you Eric) but a couple of aircraft of a similar age - see below:

It was silvery grey. Pilot was early thirties. And a stunner.
