This year the Symposium will celebrate “A Year of Anniversaries - from Sheppey to Stanley”.

Our day is headed by Martin Withers, the current Vulcan display pilot and of course the Captain of the Vulcan that completed the famed ‘Black Buck’ raid on the Falklands thirty years ago. Martin will reflect on that historic operation as well as operating the Vulcan in today’s more stringent times!

In the morning Air Commodore Bill Croydon CBE RAF (Ret’d) will be reflecting on the “Early Birds” a Century on with a short history of how manned flight first came to the Isle of Sheppey. Bill will bring to life how this area of Kent played such a key part in the advancement of early British aviation, along with its use during World War I and II, then known as RAF Eastchurch.

Continuing the anniversary theme, well known display pilot Flt Lt Charlie Brown RAF representing the RAF’s Central Flying School will tell us the story of this school for instructors in this their 100th Year of Operations. CFS has trained generations of pilots and officers to perform to the highest standards in the RAF and allied air arms, and is rightly revered by all of those who have been through its hallowed doorways.

Completing the line-up will be Air Vice Marshal Peter Dye OBE RAF (Ret’d) Director of the RAF Museum. Peter will be providing reflections on the Centenary of the Royal Flying Corps and who better to provide us with an in-depth view of the forerunner of today’s RAF in this, the Centenary Year of the formation of the Royal Flying Corps.

So as we have become accustomed, a packed programme of top-line speakers to engage, entertain and spark discussion and debate.
