Looks a bit like our strip here did just before Christmas Mono (complete with swans). Picture was taken by a (somewhat annoying and smug) 'mate' operating out of a hard strip but amazingly, the waters had receded and the sandy soil drained beautifully in time for us to enjoy a lovely trip out to Cromer in the Jodel on New Year's day. We still have some impressive lakes on the lower lying parts of the farm though and wondering what if anything we will ever get drilled into those bits this spring..... We're 15 miles away from there. Do you know it? On a separate note: I was born in Savernake Hospital ('72) and was the heaviest baby to be born there. It closed in 1980-something. That makes me a true Wiltshire born ,Wiltshire bred, strong in the arms, thick in the 'ead.
Yes, Mono, know it quite well: see this link, for example But I'm guessing from your sitrep that it's going to be muddy, if not soaking, rather than iciy this year Is the impromptu lake declining ?

In the dry and parched months, ditches and burns become overgrown with vegetation which seriously affects the ability of water to get away. I have a "thing" about field drains and ditches and regularly clear them - shrub root systems will seek out a drain in search for moisture and completely block them. You'd be surprised too at how much water is held back by a little bit of loose weed in a ditch in spate.
Antagonise no man, for you never know the hour when you may have need of him.

Wow. Also, isn't it a privilege to be able to do that? So few people will ever be able to see that sort of thing for themselves.
Was this a surge from the flooding upriver, or is that "stream" tidal? You didn't seem to be flooded until well after the rain had stopped ...
