Presumably Vinny Jones will play a senior NCO?

Guy Ritchie did a great job with Sherlock Holmes - it was a lot better than I had expected it to be. If he is able to pull out something about the RAF during the Battle of Britain that is on a par with Band of Brothers then that would be brilliant. It's a massive 'if' though!

Personally, I wouldn't mind a few actors along the lines of Vinny ... it amazes me that the myth that all Spitfire pilots spoke with inch-perfect RP still prevails today.

Nice thought but an all-but 50 year-old BoB pilot just isn't going to stand up to scrutiny.

If you haven't seen Piece of Cake which addresses the officers / other ranks divide unflinchingly, then I'd suggest you take a look. It's available on DVD

Does the 'myth' even exist? It's a long time since I have seen anything that suggests it is current.

Vinnie? - it'll be a bit cheesy?

It did my head in when I watched Foyle's War ... but then a number of things did my head in when I had to sit through that!

I'll have a look at Piece of cake ... haven't seen it. Thanks!

Sherlock Holmes was slick and well directed. I'm looking forward to it. I can't see any reference to Vinnie Jones but if Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law get involved it would guarantee loads of cash to make it and let's face it, a decent film about the Britain will need real Spitfires and Hurricanes (hurry up Burma) and that will cost so I don't really care if Douglas Bader is played by Alan Carr as long as it gets the dosh.
Actually that's a perfect casting. What about Churchill played by Bruce Willis and Hitler played by Joe Pasquale?

Downey at 48 playing Dowding and Law at 42 as Leigh Mallory?

The idea that loads of restored aircraft will be required very much predates CGI

Anyone remember the series set in the Berlin airlift days - seems to have been loosely based on the Dan Air story. That had enough rough diamonds to make Guy Ritchie's typical casting absolutely perfect.
