With the ridge on the left, it looks a bit like Zweibrucken

It's not Zweibrucken, I checked it on GE, as has Keef I still think it is Eastern Bloc, and have been through the list of DDR airfields. Though the same style appears several times, there was no match. I may have been sad chap to have time to spare in the early hours, but I am not so sad to start on the other Easter Bloc countries. The info is out there. Can you read the runway heading on your original photo?

Ian, I must be more sad. I've also done Poland, Romania and a few others. The closest I can get is a few in Slovenia/Slovakia. The same image (albeit in colour) appears on a Turkish website (
http://www.flytjets.com/ ) in the opening page banner (fourth or fifth picture).
Good luck!

Ooh, good spot, Dave!
My original photo is
here .
It's a handheld indoor photo of a photo, so some of the detail has been lost. But you can see the r/w orientation is 06 and presumably 24.

Well spotted that man. Looks a bit run down now, but is a GA airport. Fly-in anyone

And now AB where did you see the original?

Looks a similar design to some others in the Eastern Bloc.

Found with smoke and mirrors
Would the association with the location of the original photo be something to do with a specialised type of bombing?
