I have never been able to keep Top Gear on for more than 3 minutes, so TG allusions are lost on me, but anyway, in those odd three minuteses I have seen that the whole style of TG is one of aggressive alpha males trying to denigrate anyone who isn't like themselves.

On that I am in total agreement other than to query your description of the three rather sad (but rich) journalists as 'alpha males'

There was , indeed, no malice meant by me - only what I thought was banter.
Clearly it was not interpreted as such and I am now reprimanded accordingly. I am also enlightened on the bullying of this forum (once again). Sad it clearly is.

I would have thought that the words Alpha Male were coined to describe Clarkson. Loud, aggressive, bullying and patronising. It seems (from my tiny exposure) that May tries to respond in kind, but is very much the underdog - the second in the pack who uses the power of the leader to big himself up. I haven't watched long enough to form an impression of the little one, but he seems less bad.

Absolutely not! If anything, the opposite.

There was some extreme unpleasantness (which was quickly removed). Several long-standing forum members who had posted very little (sometimes called lurkers, without any attempt to be derogatory) started posting. I suspected there may have been a connection.

Timothy,

It is TV. It is fake and unreal. The only problem with any entertainment media is when people start to take it seriously. TG can be poor or can be fun, the only definite statement of the programme is that it should not be taken seriously. Give watching one or two whole episodes with a very open (blank is better) mind. Then you will see its silly, trash but can actually be very funny from time to time.

I did find Monos Stig banter funny. Look at what he is saying with tongue in cheek.

Well I guess he (Clarkson) is the Alpha male of his sad little 'pack' of three, but the thought of anybody looking up to him for leadership .....

Hang on..

....... there are all those gurning and simpering idiots in the studio who actually travel distance to stand in his presence

Perhaps you are right Timothy

I've stopped watching TG a long time ago, except when I switch on that channel by accident. It doesn't take more than a few seconds before I move onto something else worth watching. They've lost sight of the point of the programme. It's about cars, not them! To use the description, "Alpha males" covers that. They could also be described as having a rather low emotional intelligence, but more people are familiar with Alpha male so that will do.

Actually, Clarkson really is a bit of a *&*%, the short one is a poison dwarf and James May is a genuinely lovely man.

I speak with authority as they used to film at North Weald when I worked there.

The poison dwarf's attitude nearly got them banned and Clarkson used to leave them to it while he went to the pub. May is the only one who ever spent time chatting to us & treating us like humans.

So there.
