Is that about right ? or is it cheaper up north ?

Chris

You will have to do some legwork and contact the AMEs which are within reachable distance.

No point burning off £30 of fuel to save a tenner.

For an initial Class 2 you do need to get an eye examination done by an optician (cost between £15 and £40) although I had a pilot tonight who had been quoted £260 for the privilege - luckily I had told him the usual price range of opticians so he thanked the kind man for the offer and got one next door for £32.

Under the age of 40 no ECG required so you will save a few bob if you're young; and then there is the medical.

Prices depend on location etc.

I am not up North so of no use to you but I charge £110 for a Class 2 without an ECG for forumites.

Hitoro of this parish said it didn't hurt that much. I assumed at the time he meant the price...

This was also brought up fairly recently on here:

Apparently can be done on a fly-in basis at Gloucester airport.

They aren't regulated so having a look around pays off.

You can't generalise but on the whole the ones who don't publish their rates are not the cheapest

I have quotes in the North Lincs / Humberside area from £115 all in to about £190 plus ECG so it certainly paid me well to take advice on here to send some emails out and wait a few days.

Now if only the weather will play ball weekend after next I can get a lesson in....
