(Censored) Weather

Postby SpeedBird » Wed Nov 28, 2012 11:43 am

I had enough! :wall: :furious:

I finally have managed to save up some funds for flying lessons and I cannot get a window to fly because of the "!$£%£$% weather.

My local aerodrome is a bit limited to fixed wing due to grass runways, although we have an unlincensed runway (taxiway) that can be used, meeting special weather criteria. but these last couple of weeks have been a nightmare apart from a Sunday where the weather was gorgeous and I was stuck in the office. (If it is not the weather, it is work)

Rant over, I needed some therapy to let it all out. Feel slightly good now.

:snooty:

Though just be glad you're in Surrey and not in Gloucestershire...

True, I have been following the news, and it is not a good sight what is happening all over the country. :(

I can certainly empathise, yesterday was the 7th straight cancellation of a pre skills test. Not only am I getting the ache, I'm losing a bit of confidence now too.

I definitely agree with this - despite generally having two lessons booked in a week, I've not flown for 3 weeks due to the weather scuppering things. What's even more annoying is the last 'lesson' that actually happened was a ground briefing on navigation stuff, and of course that happened on an absolutely glorious day!

I dread to think how much I've now forgotten, and what my first landing is going to be like once I manage to get up there ;)

I do have a tip; never, ever, tell anyone what day your planning to fly on.

The Weather, it would seem, turns out to be a malevolant thing that spies on your email and listens to your phone calls, using the information to deliver selective CBs, fog, and crosswinds to wherever it believes hapless student pilots to be. The Weather enjoys being up there so much that it wants the sky to itself. Stay one jump ahead and keep schtum.

You see - you should have come up to Scotland. There have been some gorgeous days over the last week here. The air was so clear, that one of my work mates did a double take when he saw how bright the moon was...
Wee bit nippy, and not many hours of daylight (and I have to work anyway :( ) but very pretty out the window!

Had to say this - as it doesn't seem to happen very often!

Unfortunately I have to let the flying school know in advance ...
I can sympathise - I have managed 1at the start of November (curtailed due to an incoming storm), and 1 hour at the beginning of October. And I'm flexible enough to go for weekdays!

Now booking 2/week on the basis that the weather might be good enough on one of 'em

I've forgotten what a cockpit looks like ...

Blue skies today!

Tell the boss you suddenly have to be somewhere...and go flying.

Very frustrating - I would have been down like a shot this morning except for the torture session scheduled with the dentist. Should be nice tomorrow too though!
I know it's a silly username. If you've met me, I probably introduced myself as Josh...

I don't mind any kind of weather as long as it doesn't have ice in it - given the freezing level is about 2-3000ft, not a time to be climbing too much in IMC!

I had a lesson booked this morning so was quite happy when I woke up and looked out the window - it was short lived though as the weather out where the nav I was supposed to be doing would have taken me was rubbish (BKN003), and while within limits the wind at Cambridge wasn't really ideal for doing a load of circuits, so that'll now be 4 weeks without any flying :(

I now know it's been too long between lessons as the credit card company I use mainly for flying have just rang to confirm I'm still alive, or possibly moved my business, as there have been no transactions this billing period
