NPPL and medication

Postby NPPLLearner » Mon Nov 19, 2012 12:02 pm

I'm currently training for my NPPL under the NPPL medical declaration.

I've recently started a course of medication for a minor ailment (a man thing!) - I've reviewed all the information I could find for the NPPL medical declaration and the DVLA group 2 entitlement "At-A-Glance" guide and can find no information relating to the medication I am now taking or the problem I am taking it for. Nothing in the notes for GP or pilot either.

It's tempting to think therefore that I don't have a problem - but how can I be sure? Is there some information somewhere that I can check-out, or an AME contact that I can use, to be absolutley certain that I can continue - without incurring medical costs?

Any advice appreciated :(

The GP who signed your NPPL should be able to help.

Both BMAA and LAA have volunteer medical advisors as well I believe. Contact whichever association you belong to and see if you can ask to be put in touch with them.

Needless to say, if you don't belong to one of them, join one.

it's the same GP! He nearly fell over laughing when I asked him to sign the self-declaration a few months back - and had to take all the docs away to study them before putting his signature on. So he might think it's OK but for my own peace of mind I'd like a second opinion from somewhere, especially given the lack of info in the guidelines and the DVLA's bland "no need to refer to DVLA" statement on thier document!

Well then you're left with the option of contacting a medical advisor as per G's posting or find a friendly AME who is happy to give out free advice!
