Passed my Papua mountain flying checkout!

Not sure if this is the right forum for this but I've finally managed to achieve my aviation dream! I've just qualified to fly our company's Pilatus Porters in the mountains of Papua, Indonesia 8) For me, it doesn't get any better than this; to be flying the ultimate STOL aircraft in one of the most challenging places in the world: http://indopilot.blogspot.com/2012/10/p ... ation.html

As many of you know, I started flying back in the UK in 2006. Back then I couldn't have imagined how my aviation life would change from buzzing about the skies of England in a PA28 on a sunny weekend, to what I do now. For those of you looking towards a career in aviation, there are other paths you can take that don't end up with you paying Ryanair your parents life savings to fly a big, shiny jet ;)

Well done, but would have thought you could have found something more sporting than this:

'Bugalaga - 500m, 5700ft & 14%,8% then 24% upslope'

I'm deeply envious, and I most certainly wouldn't be of somebody boasting of getting a job flying for Ryanair !

Thanks everyone! I will most certainly continue blogging and look forward to sharing some of the amazing flying we do here in photos and words (and of course GoPro videos!).

Right now I'm based in Timika where I'm under going "line training" which entails sitting RHS, with an experienced pilot in the left seat, into each of the airstrips we go to first. Then next time, sitting LHS and doing the take-offs out of each strip, then landings and take-offs still with an experienced pilot RHS, before finally being let loose on my own :)

Awesome!!! I'm Indonesian learning to fly in the UK! LOL... Definitely must visit these exotic places, my dad spent a few years in the 70s living in Bajawa in East Nusa Tenggara and I heard the airfield is quite unique too!
