Training in Yorkshire

Postby Mattyfab » Sun Oct 14, 2012 8:50 pm

Hi all,

A Little advise here would be great please.

I'm thinking of making step towards a lifelong dream and learn how to fly. I work full time so the training will have to work around that for the time being. I've been looking at 2 schools initially,Multiflight at Leeds Bradford airport and Sheffield Aeroclub, which flies from grass strips.
So here's my questions,
1. Does anyone have any experiences or information they could share with me on either of these schools,
And
2. What's generally better to learn on, an International airport with proper ATC and commercial traffic etc, or quieter grass strips??

Any info would be great. If you'd prefer to email me rather than post on here, my address is mattyfab@hotmail.com

Many Thanks,
Mat

Hi there, thanks for your reply.
I live in Barnsley so in kind of in the ,middle of Leeds, Sheffield and Doncaster. York is maybe a little too far away, but I will look at the website and do the research as I will consider every available option.

How are you finding the lessons??

Cheers,
Mat

Hi Mat,

Well i'm only just starting - just has lesson 2 :)

but Mickey takes his time with you - the lessons are closer to 2 hours - with ground school and checks with an hour's flying.

I'm finding it bloody great at the moment - the field attitude at Breighton

Hi Matty, I learnt at Sheffield Aero Club and can recommend it. Let me know if you need any more info.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the insight, glad to hear from a past student.
How long did it take you to do the ppl, and how often did you have lessons. I suppose I'll have to call into the cafe and havea look around one afternoon. Do you still go there?

And thanks for your reply too brand, would be good if you can keep us updated on your progress and experiences

Regards,
Mat

I concur with this 100%.

I'm 12 hours into my PPL at York Flying School and I can't recommend them highly enough. Great atmosphere, high standard of instruction and very competitive pricing. I visited Mulitflight, Sherburn and York before embarking on my PPL journey. I chose York despite it being the furthest from where I am based (80 mins each way - Multiflight is only 10 mins each way) because of the reasons listed above.
