The airfield is located just east of Berlin. The S-Bahn (local train) station is ten minutes walk and it takes you to Berlin in about an hour. The runway is concrete and there is also a grass strip for gliders. It is relatively easy to find from the air, but make sure you don't overfly the villages.
Strausberg is convenient enough for a short fuel stop, but the reception and service we received was sensational. Without being asked, they arranged rooms in a building for visiting tourists and, I suspect, students. We were eight people, and they only had three double rooms so they called around and found a double at an inn a few miles away. The two people staying there were given a free ride and later reported it was very nice. The rooms at the airfield were nice, clean and cheap.
I have been flying in the former East Germany only once before, and the service then was horrible. But this was among the best receptions I have ever got.

Strausberg (EDAY)Everyone can make mistakes. Yesterday, for instance, I thought I was wrong, but I wasn't.
Re: Strausberg (EDAY)We've just visited EDAY again, in fact twice in one week: first for an overnight stop (staying in Berlin proper) and then again on the way back north for lunch and weather updates on a blustery day with many TEMPO groups in the TAFs. I can't speak highly enough of the place: service with a smile and reasonable prices. When going to Berlin by the S-bahn (local train) we got a lift to the train station at no charge, and they even sold us train tickets: no hassle at the ticket machine and they simply put the ticket cost on the landing fee. Credit cards are accepted, which is not the case in all of the former GDR.
