Home of the forum's fuel price league tables. Who's up, who's down?
This was my second visit into Bielefeld it’s located in the southern part of the city of Bielefeld, very close to the motorway A2. The resurfaced 1,300 meter long fully lighted runway and taxiways are excellent.
ATC are also excellent including a full English service, landing and parking for four days amounted to €25 (August 2010) the ATC and staff are very helpful and friendly. A very modern fuelling bay including AVGAS, MOGAS and Jet A1 are all available. There is plenty of parking with tie-downs.
One nice touch is the free use of the airfield courtesy car, just replace the fuel you use. The Café is of normal standards for a European airfield, hotels and car hire are very close by.
I would fully recommend the airfield either as a refuelling point or as a base to explore that part of Germany. Taxis into the centre of town are around €15-20 and with any German town hotels are plentiful.
Visited as a fuel stop on the way back to France from Sweden. As mentioned above, long resurfaced runways/taxiways. They have a Run-up area just off the taxiway, as opposed to using hold points etc.
Self briefing terminal etc available for use as required, the AFIS guy does everything himself onsite and was very helpful to me when I was trying to decide if I could make it to France across the southern German hills, while Susan chilled out (litterally, they left the door open which she repeatedly closed as it wasnt a great day!!) with a coffee & snack at the cafe behind the hangars.
Very Reasonable Landing fee = 7.75 Euros. Fuel wasnt the cheapest we had in Germany at 2.85/ltr, but not the most expensive either.
Its generally best to make a hole in the sky.......not the ground...
