It's a lovely large (water retaining) field situated just a few miles North of Gatwick Airport. It has a multitude of runways, although do not worry about these as from late summer round to mid spring they are normally waterlogged and all take offs and landings are done from the curvaceous (I love curves )CD taxiway, after using the taxiway a few times you'll really fail to understand why other airfields go to so much bother to make their runways straight
Redhill enjoys full ATC and on the odd occasions when the N/S runway is in use they enjoy endless chats on the phone with their colleagues at Gatwick about airspace busts and the like, so please if you plan to visit ensure you are fully aware of VRPs and circuit patterns full details at http://www.redhillaerodrome.com/
If like most pilots you would like to enjoy a bite to eat then please arrive early as for some reason unknown to mankind even on barmy sunny days the café and bar closes around 3ish leaving pilots and visitors wandering around aimlessly looking for blackberries, mushrooms or a natural spring!
No one knows what fate awaits Redhill maybe an equestrian centre, housing estate or even a hard runway but with fuel, lots of Helis and a small museum why not visit while you can
Visited Redhill today. Great airfield and so easy to find. Thought that having ACT and having to use VRP would be difficult. Not at all. I had made sure I had learnt up the the VRP beforehand and noted that the M25 made a useful line to follow - I could even read the roadsigns at 1300' to see when to turn off! Main problem was departure where I had done less homework. For those not in the know the A23, which is the crosswind, is not a dual carriageway and thus less obvious than I expected. Ooops. Apologies all round as we speedily (as speedily as the 140 will go) got out of the corner clipped off at Gatwick. One learns. I will take more care about learning up departure procedures in the future. However, if I am allowed back, I would be happy to visit Redhill again.
Thanks for the info'. I did go, for breakfast and lunch. It was very pleasant and exceptionally reasonably priced. There was even some flying to watch (a few heli's and one fixed wing).
I have to start poping in to the airfield at weekends to meet some forumites every now and then, I feel ashamed of saying this but I have been living in Redhill for 3 years now but only went to the airfield once (I am learning to fly from Stapleford).
Got checked-out by Harvard Aviation at Redhill this week so I can do some summer evening bimbling while I'm working in the area. I've previously recommended the cafe and can now recommend the airfield (and Harvard Aviation) as very nice places to fly.
New look website at http://www.redhillaerodrome.com/ and a new Master Plan! A hard runway would be good, but I'm not sure the locals would be keen on VLJ etc, the closing of the grass would be a big loss
