Saturday's weather for Duxford AOPA bonus day

Postby Chris Royle » Wed Sep 07, 2011 3:03 pm

Not sure which way the weather is going to jump at the moment, but if you have booked to fly in and you are not happy with the weather, then please remember you are welcome to drive in. Duxford is easily reached via the M11 and there is masses of free parking once you get there. Just tell staff on the gate that you are attending the AOPA meeting in the Airspace Conference Centre and they will direct you accordingly.
And don't worry, your pre-paid landing fee will be refunded if you decide to drive and not fly in.
For catering purposes, it would be really helpful if those of you who indicated when booking that they are flying in could confirm if their POB numbers are likely to be converted to tickets. Please send an e mail to admin@aopa.co.uk.
Lastly, why not invite a non AOPA member to join you on Saturday?
Safe journeys everyone and looking forward very much to seeing you all at Duxford. :thumleft:

The AOPA email address given above doesn't work/exist - bounced by the aopa mail server.

Given the forecast for tomorrow indicates rain and 30 knot crosswinds, I think I'll be driving rather than flying there.

Could someone publish the procedure for getting a refund on my landing fee?

Thanks

An IFR flight and radar approach by Stansted or Cambridge and scud run? :D

We had about a dozen aircraft in today and 30+ cars - probably about 120 or so people. Some of the folk unable to fly in came from along way away and could not drive. The overall feeling was that it was an interesting and worthwhile day, I'm very pleased to say. Thanks to all who made the effort.

It's a particular shame that the contingents from Lee-on-Solen and Sandtoft could not make it.

Re refund of landing fee -- no problem, check the aopa website, or if needed contact aopa office.

Alan.

Already done - The AOPA office refunded my credit card by lunchtime - Mandy is clearly very efficient!

Crosswinds would have been marginal at best for me today, so I think it was the right decision to drive instead.

From where I was standing (on the VC10) all day the cross wind backed and veered with varying strength/gusts.

The Grace Spitfire jitterbugged a bit on landing and at one point the Classic wings Tiger Moths were having such difficulty taxying that they were asking to take off from the mid point.

Not for the faint hearted...........
Primum non nocere..
