Loving Pink Martini and China Forbes' solo stuff at the moment. Hey Eugene is a great album.

Agreed. The odd-numbered albums (Sympathique & Hey Eugene) are wonderful. #2 and 4 lerss so, IMHO. Going to see them live in Liverpool at the beginning of next month. :D

Currently listening to 'Take Five' as prefromed by Bugge Wesseltoft. A most original and excellent take on the Brubeck classic. Mr W is prolific, and ever so slightly wierd. Going to see him in Manchester on 11 Oct. :D

Bartok string quartet No 1

I never thought I'd like Bartok, but I'm enjoying this:

- encouraged by my oppo over the road (who is also church organist, village choir director, etc).

Have been rediscovering Janice Ian

she never had enough hits imho. A really great songwriter and the words of this song will be true for every generation.

Keef I'm kind of ambivalent about Bartok too - I'll give that a listen. My current musical 'squeeze' is Scriabin's 'Poeme de l'Extase'. Heard it broadcast in my car as the Pennines were coming into view lit by sun against a cloudy backdrop. Stunning!

The new Florence album is very good indeed. Was listening to it while sat in the back watching limited panel unusual attitudes today - superb.

On further reflection, Ceremonials is better than Lungs. Heartlines especially is rocking my world at the moment.

I very, very much like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Punk with great lyrics, and acoustic versions of some of their songs make chills go up my spine...

Recently discovered Dave's true Story. 'Sex without bodies' is a great album. anybody who can write a song titled "I'll never read Trollope again" has to be worth a listen.

Currently enjoying Abdullah Ibrahim "African Magic", haven't yet found an album of his I don't like, a lot. "Cape Town Songs" is a great compilation and a very good place to start for anybody interested.

Florence and the Machine: Ceremonials.

Now I really shouldn't like F and the M but her last two albums have a strange appeal.
