I see some posts with attached photographs but when I try to attach one I see the message "The board attachment has been reached" and when I try to preview the post I can't see the photograph - even though the photograph size is below the 256K limit. So how do I attach a photograph?

That's a very good question..... I've failed on the last few attempts at posting pic for the same reason.

Mike T wrote:The forum doesn't host photographs, you have to link to photos hosted elsewhere, such as Photobucket, Flickr or your own webspace. You then link to these photos in your post using the [img]insert%20photo%20address%20here[/img] tags. There's a width limit on photos of 800 pixels, but you can resize them automatically using the rimg tag, see... http://forums.flyer.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=76544Does that help?
i'm sure it will - thanks Mike.

Mike, Sorry, but I have to disagree with you: the forum did used to allow you to attach a photo (or any other doc) to a post - have a look at viewtopic.php?f=1&t=75577 where I did exactly that with a scan of an old chart. You can't di it any more as the space allowed for uploading attachments to the forum has been filled up. Brooklands

Sorry but I'm still struggling with this. Can someone give me an example of a line of code that points to an image?

Thanks for that but I still can't get mine to work even though I can type in the web site URL and get the page to come up. I have spent too long on this now and am basically getting bored with it so I will give up for the time being.

Posting images is straight forward but the image must already be on the internet. Find the image you want to post and copy the address URL such as this http://www.webbaviation.co.uk/gallery/d/41547-1/Rapeseedfields-eb17013a.jpg . If its an image it should end in .jpg . Then open your reply and from the box above click Img . That will place the word image twice on your post both times in brackets. These mean open image and close image. and all you need to do is insert your address url in between the two. You need the permission of the copyright holder to post an image and also some web hosts block image linking so there are many images you will not be able to link.

Photobucket gives you a list of codes for every photo for a number of different applications: I do it so infrequently I usually copy and paste the wrong one initially but I usually get there in the end.............

Thanks for all the assistance - I sorted it in the end with the help of Colonel Panic (and other comments).
On a Mac - right click on the image and copy the location URL - simples!
