On Friday the 13th (January 2012) I successfully passed the PPL practice exam.

Summary
Diamond DA40 Diesel got an Engine Failure just after takeoff while performing a touch & go landing.
Description
At 16:10 we departed Lelystad for a local flight. A student pilot, who I knew from the PPL flight training,
joined me.
During the preflight and runup checks there was no indication of a possible problem. ECU test went fine.
After departing from RW23 we made a right turn and flew to the Northern direction.
45 minutes later we flew back to the airport. Since there was 30 minutes left before the airport closes,
we decided to practice some touch&go’s.
The third touch & go was a “short field landing”. Approaching the runway with 65kts and about 30%
power selected. The flaps where in “landing” configuration. We touched down at the beginning of the
runway with power idle. After touchdown flaps were set to “Take/off” and power to 100%. Shortly after
takeoff (about 30ft AOL) the engine suddenly stopped. It felt like the engine was switched off just like a
regular shutdown. Before the incident the engine sounded fine, and no messages on the annunciator
panel.
While flying above the runway, we could safely land on the remaining runway.
After touchdown I applied maximum brakes, and notified the Tower that we had an engine failure. We
halted just before the end of the runway. The plane behind us on final had to go around as we were
blocking the runway.
Two marshaller vehicles came to us and assisted with pulling the aircraft off the runway.
We brought the aircraft back to the hangar and notified the Diamond Flyers foundation about our
unfortunate experience.

And the reason why it happened...... And the reason why I got this Engine Stop was this:
The engine turbocharger hose inner layer separated from the outer layer, causing the engine to "suck vacuum" and consequently led to in-flight shutdown... Diamond issued an Airworthiness Directive to have all turbo hoses replaced. See picture below, where you can clearly see the inner hose being separated from the outer hose... ![]()
