The late ATA lady with whom I had a close family connexion used to say that she was always hopeless at map-reading [sic]. Before WW2 she used to use Bradshawing a lot, if necessary flying low enough to read station nameboards, but this was not practical once the nameboards were taken down in the war. Fortunately, she had a good memory for railway routes and junctions, and once near the South coast (in the combat zone, without radio or armament, of course) she could recognise resorts where she had holidayed by their piers. Quite a lady. :salut:

She flew in a light aircraft after the war only once, as a passenger of her new PPL daughter in the '70s. She did not enjoy it.
