I think Flyer had an item on the hit & run but didn't see any further posts. As a number on here have met and indeed flown with Doug, including at Project Propellor, the sad news may be relevant to them. A sad end to a rich and varied life, he won't make project propellor this year. Blue Skies to real gentleman and aviator.

There is more on the GWDT facebook page.

RIP

I chatted with him years ago next to his aeroplane at one of the PFA rallies. I didn't know anything about his war time career and he certainly didn't bring it up in our conversation - gentlemen of his kind never do. A sad end to a life well lived.

Yes a wonderful old chap. I had the privilege of flying him to Project Propeller last year. His flying autobiography Aero Addict (the title says it all) describes his WW2 RAF training and subsequent service (in characteristicly modest terms), his post war GA flying leading up to building and flying his SE5a that he flew beyond his 90th birthday.
A real loss to all who knew him.

I knew Doug for many years before the subject came up - raised via somebody else's comment, of course.

Just a lovely man; I'm extremely privileged to have known him and Liz.
