Primarily for general aviation discussion, but other aviation topics are also welcome.

Not evident on those pictures....
2 repairs were needed , both a bit difficult for access. Fwd pressure b/head left side immediately aft of Radome and other was fwd of door 1 left at floor level ( fwd toilet module sits there)
Those other repairs occured earlier
A/C delivered new in 1991 and flew over 50000 hrs with some 37000 landings

First flew her at the very end on 1991. She certainly has earned her keep. Doing the maths makes me feel old :( At least she will be doing something to help future generations in the aerospace industries. It is also good to see BA donating it to a great institution.

Hats are just a FOD risk and ruin one's hairdo!

Boeing make wonderful aircraft. The students at Cranfield can have great joy ruminating on how a 1950s concept and early 60s basic design is still going strong. An absolutely rock-solid airframe. The fact that it's still competitive with an 80s clean sheet design says it all about what a great aircraft it is.

There is one Pitot on each side of the Fin. They are for the Elevator Feel system.

Another BA 737 went to the graveyard at Victorville this week ..... OCY along with a 767 .....NWD

Before they go to Victorville all the useful bits like seats and galleys are usually robbed for spares for the aircraft that are left in the fleet.

damhead wrote:Enjoyed the 60 min video thanks for posting. I was surprised they flew it half way round the world empty, you would think that they would fill it with punters.

.. that would mean putting more cabin staff on board (did they have one for the reporter and cameraperson, I wonder, or were they manifested as 'supernumerary crew ?), and crew hotels for them before the return. And then, presumably, paying for full cabin fire cover at the boneyard. Accountants rule!
