Can anybody recommend a good place or places to get a poorly Mk.1 Artificial Horizon serviced?

I'm not sure if they do instruments I house, but Weald Aviation have plenty of experience with vintage aircraft. I'm sure they'd know who to put you in touch with.

Have you tried Repair Craft in Cranleigh? Seem to recall they have expertise in older military instruments.

Do Pandect in High Wycombe do this sort of thing? It's where I take my fatigue meter.

My experiences with Aircraft Instruments Ltd Huddersfield have not been good.
Failure to reply to phone messages, broken promises, failure to repair, failure to return broken instrument. Perhaps I have been unlucky and they are really good.
