Primarily for general aviation discussion, but other aviation topics are also welcome.

Sounds reasonable, though the drop in light GA in that traffic graph is rather sad. The hotel would be much needed for bizjet types.

Josh, probably not surprising with the closure of the larger training schools over the last few years.

I did complete the survey and suggest a push to get more GA based there, especially with Rochester seemingly ready to build a new runway with available hangar space.

Agreed from a perspective of Biggin's future viability, although this is rather depressing:

"A. There will be no overall increase in flights from 2010 levels, which is 50,000 per year. Our plan will attract more business aircraft, but this increase will be offset by the continuing decline in light aviation due to rising costs and a change in the general aspirations of young people today."

Things look to be progressing.....

Still not sure about this part.....

•Establishing a Safety and Noise Review Board to review all noise complaints and issue penalties to those pilots failing to properly observe restrictions.

This sounds interesting though....

•Introducing landing fee discounts for aircraft owners fitting approved exhaust silencers to their aircraft thereby reducing noise on the ground.

As well as the Airport Consultative Committee which they're obliged by law to have? What's the point?

How much noise is exhaust noise vs prop? I know of a certain 172 rocket that has the silencer kit fitted, but it has a 3 bladed prop and makes a horrendous racket fully fine taking off!

Depends on what part of the whole flight you're talking about.

I was at the airfield in Bonn when a PA28 started up and started taxying. It was hardly any noisier than your average family car. It had one of those large exhausts which went along the fuselage.

So at least on the ground at low power it makes a huge difference.

The F117 and B2 had the exhaust exit the aircraft upwards so harder to hear it from the ground.
Most GA types seem to have the exhaust pointing downwards or rearwards.... making it noisier for those on the ground.

A three blade prop should theoretically be quieter than a two blade.

Problem solved.
