Requirements:

- Airfield with accommodation nearby and good food (not necessarily on the airport)
- grass runway preferable
- approx 1hr flight away from Goodwood/Chichester

Looking to take my wife away for anniversary and have considered northern France, (Normandy, brittany etc), Cotswolds, or Dorest / Somerset area

Would appreciate your suggestions and experiences. I would have liked to have gone back to Troyes but maybe a little too far away for my wife.

Sywell? :D

Enstone and Heythrop Hall?

Or maybe have a look through these hotels and see if there are any within spitting distance of an airfield.

The Woodman Inn just off the end of the runway at Nuthampstead is very pleasant and the strip has a VOR on it.

Gloucester........loads of options within 10-minute drive. Give the girls on the desk a call 01452 857700, ask for Kim and she'll put you on the right track.

You could try White Waltham - and overnight in either Henley on Thames, Marlow or historic Windsor.
Waltham offers 3 large grass runways - and a superb clubhouse.

Thanks everyone,

I think I'd like to try somewhere different to where I have been before and Bolt Head and Gloucester certainly warrant further research.

What about Northern France or Channel Islands. Does anyone have any experience of little gems just across the channel?

Château de Monhoudou, with its own airstrip.

Never been there, but always fancied it. Elsewhere on the forums is IIRC a fairly positive comment from someone who's stayed there.

About an hour and a half at typical GA speeds from Goodwood, but you'll need to factor in a Customs stop - Caen's not too far out of the way.

Guernsey worth a look, though not grass obviously, there's lots of places to stay and cheap landing fees and fuel.

Braye Beach Hotel on Alderney, several quite good restaurants around, boat rides, historic forts and nature walks.

You could try Dinard, I love to visit and it's easy to get into town by taxi. I have always found somewhere to stay, I could dig hotel details out for you. I find it Less touristy than St Malo and then just take the boat across for the day. St Malo is really nice and if you want to go the hole hog, just pay a bit more in the taxi and stay in St Malo, then take the boat ferry over to Dinard during the day. You can fly in direct or stop at Cherbourg to break up the flight. It's easy flying, avoid Cherbourg on the Sunday, the restaurant is closed and it's dead.
Happy to talk you through things, just contact me direct.
