Runway Occupied

Postby Timothy » Thu Jan 03, 2013 11:10 am

The view down the runway at Tanda Tula Airstrip in South Africa. There appear to be some obstructions.

Game reserve roads can be like that first thing in the morning. I had a near miss with a snozing rhino once.
What does that button do ?

I seem to recall a bush pilot discussion over on the dark side about which animals could be expected to get out of the way on your landing roll and which you should go around for. A Rhino I think was firmly in the latter camp!
I know it's a silly username. If you've met me, I probably introduced myself as Josh...

Myself and a group of colleagues did once as well. I did wonder how grumpy the rhino would be having been rudely awaken, though it didn't seem that bothered and just moved off to the side as we took photos and drove past (slowly).

The BAC 111 was allegedly designed so that the undercarriage could withstand hitting a llama on landing in the crucial South Amercian market....
Tight for space in the cockpit? Take a look at the Aero-ist Wristboard

Well it certainly came off better than the pick up in that accident. Apart from the noise I liked the 1-11 especially the unique air stairs at the back.

That's not a 1-11, it's a Challenger, I think (though I'm sure someone else will know exactly!). And the 727 also had airstairs so they're not unique to the 1-11.

NB Shame about the poor giraffe
