Stop off at Breighton then Lydd. Fill up with duty free fuel at Lydd and complete the paperwork. Tootle off to Le Touquet at your leisure.

I believed that lydd still did duty free fuel but I was told they had stopped due to lack of demand. Can anyone confirm that?

I uplifted fuel duty free at Lydd in June, but things may have changed since then.

As you can claim drawback on completely full tanks, what would be the advantage of duty free fuel other than saving some paperwork?
Certainly doesn't seem worth visiting the windswept desolate mudflats of Lydd for.

Headcorn does not offer duty free fuel. In fact, it's some of the most expensive fuel in the SE
Never in the field of aviation forums has so much bolleaux been written by so many who know so little.....

Some Norwegians were visiting the UK and it would have been easier for them to buy duty free fuel. At the time I thought Headcorn could supply tax free fuel but they phoned Headcorn to check and they said it had been discontinued. For overseas pilots without a UK account it has to be the easier way but for the rest of us filling in a form is the best way. Which poses another question..is Lydd the only place where duty free fuel is available?

Used to be available at Sarfend. Not sure if it still is.
All roads roam to Leeds.

My recommendation would be to fly as long a first leg as possible before you have to put on your life jackets etc. Could you not manage Earls Colne, which must be close to your direct track? 1000m of hard runway, fuel and a much quicker, cheaper turnaround than some.

Why bother with the paperwork when you don't have to. Also saves paying out and reclaiming. You get the saving there and then.

At the cost of an unnecessary landing and refuel?
Personally I'd rather just send off a drawback form. The few quid I have to lay out and reclaim are hardly a life-changing sum.

Ironically, I'm with a load of people from Perth in what is their Le Touquet 'equivalent', Bali. Not many Scottish accents around though but a few good-looking sheilas Iceman
