Far canal! Would you believe it.

Postby Sir Morley Steven » Sat Jun 30, 2012 1:02 pm

Planning my CW trip to France next week, car all booked, George on his way there to get the bubbly on ice, so I check the NOTAMs a week in advance as the tour de France NOTAm stuff.
My destination airfield is effing closed for the effing day for an effing airshow! They haven't had one since the thirties and they choose the day I am flying in to NOTAM "based aircraft only"
Gaah! Plan B is bloody inconvenient and involves cancelling car and going somewhere else much further away. Bolleaux.

Yeah! Ive courriel'd them asking for a slot but I reckon i'll get a non. Its reserved until 17:00 so if push cones to shove i'll just pitch up after but that will be 19:00 local by which time the car hire chap will have gone home. Merde and double merde avec merde soufflé.

So tell him to leave the keys where you pay the landing fee.

I flew in to Romans-sur-Isère last week when they were NOTAM-notified as "based aircraft only". The phone call promptly gave me permission, and arranged AvGas for when we arrived. Speaking French on the phone surely helped. The locals were very welcoming and also gave the four of us a lift in to town.

Shirley, Mr Morley, you are a based aircraft anyway? Try phoning them. It's a few years since I was last at your airfield, but they were similarly welcoming.

I once tried Nevers-sur-Dimanche on a Sunday and it wasn't allowed for some reason I couldn't understand

I was looking in the Pas-de-Chance region, hoping to find a GA airfield.

But....no such luck.
