The airshow has now been cancelled.

A/C looks repairable, sadly not so with the pilot! :|
Real pilots fly anything they can get their hands on!

I'm gutted. I have visited a couple of times a year for the last 20 years.

I watched a single display there at nine years old, not much short of 40 years ago, and it *still* stands out in my mind. So it's a very worthwhile place and activity, and a particularly sad accident.

I witnessed the accident. Have given my statement to AAIB and I will not be commenting further.

Except to say . . .
When the pilot's name appeared on the Internet (Facebook first, then here, that I saw) it had NOT been released by the Collection nor the Police, and I still don't think it has. And it could not have been long after next of kin had been told.

It was on the Daily Mail site in a tad over three hours. The first intimation I saw of who was involved.

I assumed then it was public domain and reposted it here two hours later.

I live ten minutes away from Old Warden, have been a member of the SVAS for some time and often take friends and family to see the collection. This is such tragic news. All of those who maintain and fly the aircraft in the collection have such consummate skill and a real passion for historic aviation. My heart goes out to them and of course, the friends and family of the deceased pilot.

What a dreadful accident.

It's also a shame that well-known forumites feel some dreadful urge to name the victim(s), when naming them here serves no useful purpose to anyone. Let the police do that work; repeating what may or may not be mentioned elsewhere in the public domain does forumites no credit.

The accident is a real shame indeed, but sayign that it serves no useful purpose I feel is a little untrue. A friend of ours is a shuttleworth pilot and we were unsure as to wether it was him or not.

Wether that is useful or not is perhaps debatable to you, to me it was.

The first place that I saw the name was from the article in on the daily mail website that someone had sent us.

This is not to say that it makes the loss of life any less sad.

Yes, I daresay I could have just posted the link to the Daily Mail article and left it at that.

But having been in the situation of fearing for somebody I know just a few months back following a crash at Leicester, I see more purpose in shortcutting the chain to the publicly available information than concealing it.

If you really feel that is 'dreadful' then I apologise for upsetting you.
