I hadn't seen this posted yet.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-18128759From BBC:
Pilot 'critical' after light plane crash in Ashwell
A pilot is being treated for "life-threatening injuries" after his light aircraft crashed into a field in Hertfordshire.
The man, on board the one-seater plane, was hurt when the plane came down in Ashwell, near Baldock, on Friday.
Emergency services went to the field in Newnham Way at about 18:30 BST.
Does anyone know where the aircraft was from, or type.
Obviously hoping the injured pilot makes a full recovery.

Look East just had film from the scene but no other details beyond what you quoted. It wasn't clear (to me) what the type was but it was badly broken up. Empennage looked like a 'frame and fabric' construction.

Purely speculation, but Newnham airfield is right next to the town of Ashwell so could of been operating into/out of there when it got into trouble. Hope they make a swift recovery.

In order to stop the rumour mill.....
The pilot is a friend of mine.
The aircraft was a newly completed MiniMax.
It was from Newnham.
The pilot had very little experience on type.
Please wait for more details before starting speculation as he is in a poor way and please have some respect for his family at this time.
Thanks.

Wishing him well for a speedy recovery. I understand he is critical in Addenbrooks.
