Must be horrifying knowing a wing has fallen off and nothing you can do about it.....

I've seen the tiny spars and bolts inside the struts on my 150 and always amazed they are so strong (doing aeros).

Sad loss.

My 'old dear' never asks about my flying, She hates the idea of aircraft and me.

My Cessna likes to run at peak. IO360KB fuel injected. This gives me 130kts indicated and 34lph flow at 2000ft.

The malibu has to be run LOP. Not only does it save several GALLONS an hour but is required to keep CHT and TIT under control.

is a better aid to finding airfields. All you have to do is hover your mouse over an airfield and you automatically see the airfield info.

Then click on the airfield to see more info. It also provides route planning and met info.

Southend is great, always have found them to be friendly and accommodating. Will be popping in tomorrow late afternoon with Scuderia and RoyS to clear customs.

Andrewsfield really is a top place. A bit of a challenge with a 700ft RH circuit that sits under the Stansted zone but well worth learning from. Very relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and instructors.

I'll be up there Sunday although I don't know what I'll be doing. Should have done my QXC yesterday but the gusts were too strong around Peterborough and the viz at Norwich was pants so all I got out of it was three circuits and the chance to fill her up and park back on the matting and put the control lock back in.

The instructor who send me solo was very young (20), but looked about 16 or so.

He took great delight in taking trial flighters up whilst regularly saying "Errrrmmm...." and "Woww!..." to their obvious consternation. Having handed over S&L to the trial flighter, he would get out the POH with the words "This Youth Opportuinities scheme is brilliant, but I just need to read up how to land...."

Moving from a group to where I was paying a wet rate to an SR22 group where I now pay a dry rate and then get invoiced separately for fuel... I quickly learnt what that red lever did

That's the least fun part - absolutely no flying involved. Just contact 'an examiner' BEFORE your expiry date, but within 3 months of it.

Also, don't phone or go into a club and ask for 'the CFI' - the chances are yes, your CFI can sign your rating, but he/she might not be the only one in the club who can - it just needs an examiner - there may be more than one around, for example a ground examiner. If you specifically ask for the CFI and you are told, "sorry, CFI's away for a week", the person you are speaking to might actually be an examiner. Ask for 'someone who can sign SEP revalidations'
